1. Scope

This policy explains how GottaMeme handles information when you visit gottameme.com and use the meme editor, downloads, template library, or AI features.

GottaMeme currently has no user accounts, paid subscriptions, or payment processing.

2. Images you upload

Images selected with the editor's upload button are read and edited locally in your browser. GottaMeme does not upload those files to its server. Closing or refreshing the page clears the active editing session.

3. AI prompts and results

When you request an AI caption, we send the situation you enter, the selected template name, and the selected tone to OpenRouter. When you request an original visual, we send the scene description you enter. OpenRouter may route the request to the selected model provider.

GottaMeme returns the generated result to your browser and does not currently save prompts or generated results in an application database. Our hosting and AI providers may retain request data under their own policies, security practices, and legal obligations.

4. Quotas, cookies, and security

AI features use a strictly necessary, signed, HttpOnly cookie to store the current UTC day and anonymous generation counters. The cookie expires at the next UTC day boundary and is used to enforce the displayed free quota.

For abuse prevention, the server creates a one-way HMAC identifier from the requesting IP address and browser user-agent. The raw values are not placed in the quota cookie or quota database. The identifier, UTC day, quota type, and anonymous counter are stored in Neon Postgres so limits work across server instances. Vercel may also process IP addresses, request headers, security signals, and operational logs to host and protect the site.

5. Local favorites and remix links

If you like a template, its slug is stored in your browser's local storage so the “My likes” filter works on that device. This list is not sent to a GottaMeme account or synchronized between devices. You can remove likes in the template library or clear the site's browser storage.

When you explicitly copy a remix link, the template, captions, and text layout are encoded in the part of the URL after the # symbol. That fragment is shared with anyone you send the link to but is not transmitted to GottaMeme's server, stored in an application database, or indexed as a separate page. Remix links are disabled for uploaded and AI-generated images.

6. Analytics

When Google Analytics 4 is enabled, GottaMeme loads it only after you select “Allow analytics” in the consent notice. If you decline, the Google Analytics tag is not loaded and no analytics data is sent to Google. Your choice is stored in this browser's local storage.

Consented analytics may include page URLs, landing pages, device and browser information, approximate location derived by Google, and product events such as selecting a template, completing a download, sharing a meme, creating a remix link, or using template search. We do not send meme captions, situation-search text, AI prompts, uploaded images, or generated images as analytics event parameters. Advertising storage, ads personalization, ads user data, and Google Signals are disabled in the site configuration.

Google Analytics uses first-party identifiers such as the _ga cookie to distinguish visitors and sessions. Retention is controlled in the GottaMeme GA4 property and Google's systems. You can decline analytics in the notice or clear this site's cookies and local storage through your browser.

7. Service providers

We use Vercel for hosting, delivery, logging, and security; Neon for the anonymous AI quota ledger; OpenRouter for access to text and image generation models; and—only after analytics consent—Google Analytics 4 for aggregate product and traffic measurement. These providers process data on our behalf or as independent service providers under their respective terms and privacy policies.

8. Retention and choices

The anonymous quota cookie and active daily allowance reset at the next UTC day boundary. Server quota rows are removed after 30 days through routine cleanup and are not used to profile users. Browser uploads remain local. Operational and AI-provider logs are retained according to the relevant provider's settings and policies.

You can use manual editing without submitting an AI prompt. You can delete local favorites and the quota cookie through your browser settings, although deleting the quota cookie does not guarantee that the server-side abuse limit resets immediately.

9. Children and international use

GottaMeme is not directed to children under 13. Do not submit personal or sensitive information about children. Data may be processed in countries where our service providers operate.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when our product or providers change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
